Maserati Accelerates with New GT2 Stradale Model

In 2020, Klaus Busse, Maserati’s design chief, introduced the stunning MC20 as part of a major brand overhaul. This supercar distinguished itself with an elegant yet understated aesthetic. Now, five years later, Maserati has unveiled a race-inspired variant called the GT2 Stradale, a nod to the successful GT2 race car that recently excelled in the GT2 Euro Series Championship, achieving 16 pole positions and 12 victories en route to its first championship.

The GT2 Stradale represents a performance-focused iteration of the MC20, showcasing its sporty credentials with features like a prominent fixed rear wing, air vents atop the wheel arches, and a redesigned front end for improved downforce and airflow. The engine has been enhanced, increasing its power output by ten horsepower to reach a remarkable 640 bhp, making it the most powerful road-going Maserati to date. Coupled with aerodynamic and thermodynamic advancements, the GT2 Stradale offers improved acceleration and performance compared to the standard MC20. Additionally, engineers have successfully reduced the car’s weight by 60kg, resulting in a sharper, more agile vehicle that maintains the everyday usability of the original MC20.

The sportier aesthetics of the GT2 Stradale are likely to attract enthusiasts who found the MC20 too subtle. Inside, the cabin features luxurious Alcantara upholstery and a re-positioned central console that puts the drive mode controls directly in the driver’s line of sight. A new color palette is available with this release, including a striking textured powder nude that complements the car’s black accents effectively.

Production will be limited to just 914 units, honoring Maserati’s founding year of 1914. Each car will prominently display an interior plaque denoting its number in this limited series, underscoring Maserati’s rich heritage in motorsport, with a history of racing success predating many current automotive brands, including Ferrari.

While clearly designed for track performance, the GT2 Stradale possesses an aesthetic that allows the driver to exit the vehicle without a racing suit and still look stylish. The car strikes a balance between sporty purposefulness and everyday chic, embodying the elegance of an impeccably dressed individual donning a casual sports outfit. Busse light-heartedly notes how high-performance vehicles often attract attention—sometimes the wrong kind—but he hopes the GT2 Stradale inspires admiration instead of derision. It augments the existing Maserati range with an exciting, track-ready alternative to the already exquisite MC20.
